Aside from many of the books on the library’s list, I consider Colette and Virginia Woolf as timeless. I often reread To The Lighthouse, and I have read Orlando and Mrs. Dalloway twice so far. Aside from perhaps rereading them, I might reread Flush. My favorite Colette novels are the Vagabond and the Shackle, a set, about her life as a music hall performer and with and without a lover. She also wrote Gigi, about a girl who is set up to follow her mother and grandmother in the trade of courtesan, which was made into a musical with Maurice Chevalier, Hermione Gingold, Louis Jourdain, and Leslie Caron in the 1950’s. A time-travel novel from the 70s is Woman on the Edge of Time by Marge Piercy. Another good sci-fi novel I thought was a classic is The Female Man–the author’s first name is Joann, but darn, can’t remember her last name.

I loved “Woman on the Edge of Time” and the other classic of a similar vein, “Gate to Women’s Country” by Sheri Tepper. Joanna Russ is the author of the classic “Female Man”.
